Yamaha - Grip, Assist - GJ3-U271E-10-00

The grip handles on both sides were broken. Warning - they are not sold in pairs; if you need to replace two, buy two.

You will need a screwdriver/drill (my screws were Philips Head) and a 13mm 1/2" deep socket wrench or cponventional wrench to grab the nut on the inside (the 1/2 wrench also worked). Remove the main part of the seat, find the nuts on the grip handle screws. Hold the nuts tightly with your socket wrench or conventional wrench and undo the screws. Be careful to not drop the screws or nuts in the lake (I fixed mine on the lift) or the engine cavity. Swap out the handles, insert the screws and tighten them down. If you do lose a nut, they can be replaced at your local hardware store.

The repair itself was very simple; just don't drop your tools in the engine cavity! That turned into a fun process of extraction which included about 20 minutes of fruitless digging (my arm fit, but I'm little) in the engine cavity and finally pulling it off the lift and tipping it over to dislodge the socket wrench from wherever it had landed. Next time, I will be tying the tool to my arm to prevent this.
